Registered Apprenticeship: A Pathway that Pays!

Registered Apprenticeship: A Pathway that Pays!

Scott Schmelzle is a Software Engineering apprentice at Access Point, a Registered Apprenticeship program providing opportunities to high school students from historically marginalized groups. Scott was always interested in technology and was planning on seeking a computer science degree when he left high school, but was not sure how he was going to pay for college. When he heard about Access Point’s apprenticeship program, he jumped at the chance to start his technology career.

Scott was surprised at how much he grew throughout the program, not only professionally, but as a person. He notes how his apprenticeship has offered him opportunities to network with industry professionals, and how, thanks to the program, he now feels better prepared to face any challenges that come his way.

Scott wants anyone considering an apprenticeship program to know, “If you’re not sure how to pay for college or how to get into the IT industry, this is a path that can pay off.” His apprenticeship has already allowed Scott to achieve some of his goals, including earning college credits and saving money for his first car.
