Network with other youth apprenticeship leaders to build a shared community investing the next chapter of youth apprenticeship. A tight labor market and pressing need for skilled work across the United States has put the value of work-based learning for youth in focus. Key leaders in youth apprenticeship will share insights about how to maintain and expand momentum for youth apprenticeship nationally. Youth apprentices and employers will share their experiences with youth apprenticeship, and researchers and practitioners will elevate lessons learned from across the system.

We are honored to welcome Bladensburg High School to Dulles Airport on May 2, 2024. Bladensburg’s CTE program has been a pipeline for MWAA to find amazing apprentices. We currently have numerous graduates from their Career and Technical Education program as apprentices including Apprentice Trailblazer Jonathan Viera. The attendees are the Career and Technical Education second-year carpentry and electrical students. They are 11th and 12th graders from Bladensburg High School in Prince George’s County, MD along with their teachers and administrators.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, the MWAA Apprentices along with our police and fire departments will visit the WISH Center in the Hybla Valley Area of Fairfax County. During our time Skilled Trades Apprenticeship program and work with Middle Schoolers to build small projects. This is an awareness campaign for the Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Program and for the WISH Center Apprenticeship Readiness Program.

We will look closely at how to open the door for high school students to be teacher's aide apprentices, leading to an opportunity to work as a paraprofessional and be on a career pathway through Missouri State University's Paras to Professionals program to teacher certification. In this webinar, you will discover the different options or pathways available for students. Dr. Reesha Adamson has spearheaded this outstanding pipeline for our high school students alongside Ashley Clift of Bolivar High School and our Apprenticeship Consultant, Betty Glasgow.
