In celebration of Youth Apprenticeship Week, Mathematica spoke with Chris McLarion, Maryland’s director of apprenticeship and training, and Adele Burnes, California’s deputy chief of the Division of Apprenticeship Standards. The focus of the conversation was to learn more about their state’s in-school and out-of-school youth apprenticeship initiatives for youth ages 16–24.

Join co-moderators, Ajkuna Hoppe, Executive Director of the German American Partnership Program (GAPP), and Wood Powell, Program Analyst, Office of Apprenticeship, U.S. Department of Labor as they discuss the concept of Berufsorientierung, or Career Orientation, in an intercultural, German-American context with six high-school-aged students: three from Seminole County High School (SCHS), Georgia, and three from Fachoberschule Landshut-Schönbrunn (FOS), Bavaria. The discussion centeres on the very first international agriculture exchange program between the two schools, which was initiated on 2021 by Patrick Wallace at the Georgia Department of Education, followed by multi-year in-person exchanges between the two schools. This webinar has been made possible by American and German teachers, Wes Pace, CTAE Instructor/Young Farmer Advisor, Levi Dunn & Victoria Fleet CTAE Instructors/FFA Advisors and Veronika Ewender, Christian Adam & Berni Maer, German counterparts.
