Shane Siler works out of BODEC’s Green River, Wyoming branch as an Industrial and Heavy Commercial Electrician. He joined the BODEC Registered Apprenticeship Program in May 2025 and is currently entering his third year in both the program and the Western Wyoming Community College Electrical Apprentice Program.
Before starting his electrical career, Shane spent over 15 years in the food industry and gained additional experience in drilling and construction. He found that many of the skills from those fields translated well to the electrical trade. Becoming a single father during his last five years in food service motivated him to pursue a more stable and promising career path. The apprenticeship program has since enabled him to build a better life for himself and his son.
Shane was initially drawn to the trades because of the opportunity to earn a full-time wage while attending school. At BODEC, apprentices receive a raise for each semester of school they complete, making the program both financially and professionally rewarding. In contrast to the high cost and uncertain return of traditional college degrees, Shane views apprenticeship as a smarter investment. He chose electrical work specifically for its high earning potential and the intellectually and physically engaging nature of the job. For anyone who enjoys hands-on work and is ready to commit, Shane strongly recommends exploring apprenticeship opportunities early. It’s a practical and rewarding path that can open doors to long-term success and stability.
