Jean Fabelo is an Automotive Technician registered apprentice at a Jaguar and Land Rover dealership in Louisville, Kentucky. Jean had always wanted to be in the automotive industry, but he did not know how to begin that career path. Before starting with the Automotive Apprenticeship Group (AAG), Jean was a supervisor at a Ford truck plant, where he worked for five years.
When asked about his Registered Apprenticeship (RA) experience Jean stated, "I've been most surprised at how helpful and how easy it was for me to start learning and feeling comfortable about what was going on at work or school. The biggest lesson I've learned is that it's better to be doing something you love than to be working just for money."
Though Jean was initially nervous about working on cars that were not his own, he quickly became comfortable performing his duties. Jean expressed that, "after working with my trainer and learning in class and online, my confidence grew exponentially and helped me overcome that fear."
Jean indicated that one of the highlights of participating in the AAG RA program has been the opportunity to work in a field that he loves while learning from kind, instructive, and professional individuals.
When asked what he would communicate to others who might be interested in his RA program, Jean said, "I would recommend an AAG apprenticeship because they help you every step and make sure you're happy and comfortable with everything you're going through. From the location you're working to the online classes and everything in between… and if you're not happy with the location you are training in, they help you find a location that works best for you."
