Making America AI Ready Through Registered Apprenticeship
With recent advancements in technology, almost every employee will need a practical, working understanding of how to use AI tools in carrying out their everyday tasks. In alignment with the Executive Order on Advancing Artificial Intelligence Education for American Youth and the AI Action Plan, the U.S. Department of Labor is working to increase AI literacy on multiple fronts.
The Department issued an AI Literacy Framework to provide a common foundation to guide AI literacy efforts for workers, employers, training providers, teachers and faculty, state and local agencies, and other workforce and education system stakeholders. The framework identifies foundational content areas and delivery principles that can inform program design while allowing for flexibility and adaptation across industries, roles, and contexts. The Department also launched a new Make America AI-Ready Initiative, an AI literacy course for every American delivered entirely by text message. No laptop or internet needed. Just your phone. Text "Ready" to 20202 to enroll in the free, one-week, phone-based AI literacy course. Learn about the "Make America AI-Ready" initiative

What is AI Literacy?
As described in TEN 07-25, AI literacy is a foundational set of skills that enables workers to:
- Understand what AI tools can and cannot do.
- Use AI tools to support everyday tasks like drafting, summarizing, and organizing.
- Give AI tools clear instructions and context.
- Review AI-generated outputs for accuracy and usefulness.
- Apply workplace rules to use AI tools appropriately.
These skills help workers be effective, productive, and able to more rapidly upskill as AI tools evolve and become more integrated into the American workplace.
