Public safety workers like police officers, firefighters, correctional officers, emergency medical technicians, and dispatchers are all essential to keeping Maryland’s communities safe and healthy. Yet many communities face major challenges recruiting, training, and retaining frontline heroes.
In Maryland today, thousands of workers will start their public safety careers through apprenticeship. Apprenticeship programs combine paid on-the-job training with mentorship, industry-standard curriculum and certifications, and high standards of quality and safety. Apprenticeship has measurable positive impacts on recruitment and retention, and departments of all sizes can develop their own programs, creating sustainable career pathways that tackle tough workforce challenges.
Join the Maryland Department of Labor for a free, live-facilitated, webinar to explore apprenticeship and grant opportunities that support apprenticeships for public safety workers. Labor staff will discuss open funding opportunities including the Maryland Public Safety Apprenticeship Grant Program and the Public Sector Apprenticeship Innovation Fund. Both of which can be used to help offset the cost of building and operating an apprenticeship program.
