Event Description

HOUSTON (Nov. 1, 2023) – Houston Community College (HCC) and Harris Health System are joining forces to establish a comprehensive apprenticeship program to train and produce skilled patient care technicians. A Memorandum of Understanding signing will take place on Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the HCC Coleman College for Health Sciences Tower, 1919 Pressler St., to formalize the program. National Apprenticeship Week is Nov. 13-19. The collaboration couples the resources of two leading institutions to address a growing demand for qualified healthcare technicians in the region. It will combine classroom instruction and firsthand clinical experience to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed in the healthcare industry. Apprentices will receive training in areas such as patient care technique, vital sign monitoring, infection control protocols and medical terminology, gaining theoretical understanding and practical proficiency.
